Re: Urgent Need for Coverage of Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy for Veterans
Dear Ministers,
I am writing to urge your departments to take immediate steps to ensure that Veterans Affairs Canada covers the full costs of psychedelic-assisted therapy for veterans, including Special Access Program (SAP) consultations, application processes, the medicine itself, and the associated therapy.
The evidence for the safety and effectiveness of psychedelic-assisted therapies is compelling and continues to grow. Veterans and clinicians across Canada report transformative results—often where conventional treatments have failed. These therapies demonstrate minimal adverse effects, and unlike many current treatments, they do not require lifelong or repeated use. The result is improved recovery, reduced long-term dependence on pharmaceuticals, and a significant reduction in overall healthcare costs.
Simply put, this is a safe, effective, and affordable treatment pathway. Our veterans deserve timely access to the best available care—without unnecessary financial or bureaucratic barriers. It is time for Veterans Affairs Canada to recognize psychedelic-assisted therapy as a covered, reimbursable treatment for those who have served our country.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter and for your continued commitment to the wellbeing of Canadian veterans. I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further or to provide supporting clinical data and testimony from veterans and medical professionals.
Sincerely,
Your Name
